Nationwide restaurant chain – Côte Brasserie – has received the endorsement of the Colostomy Association in its campaign to make loos across the UK more accessible for people living with a stoma.
The Colostomy Association is currently campaigning to create a ‘stoma-friendly society’. One of the main focuses of the campaign is making sure that toilet facilities at popular destinations across the UK meet the additional needs of adults and children living with a stoma - particularly as it is estimated almost one in every 500 people have a stoma).
Côte Brasserie has received an endorsement from the Colostomy Association following discussions between the restaurant chain and charity.
The Colostomy Association’s recommendations for a stoma-friendly loo are:
Côte’s accessible toilets all have hooks on the backs of their doors, a baby changing unit that can be used as a shelf and a disposal bin within the cubicle.
Speaking about the endorsement, a Colostomy Association spokesperson said: “We are really happy to endorse Côte Brasserie as being a stoma-friendly restaurant chain.
“Some ostomates can feel isolated as they are unsure where they can conveniently and securely change their stoma bag. Having a nationally-recognised and popular restaurant chain like Côte Brasserie join our campaign is a big step forward for people living with a stoma across the UK.”
