Making an impact at Reading Pride 2015

Sep 16, 2015

The Colostomy Association reached out to Berkshire’s LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community earlier this month at Reading Pride 2015.

This year’s Reading Pride saw over 14,000 people in attendance with a parade, live music, family events and a marketplace. The Colostomy Association got involved both to reach out to the South East’s LGBT community as well as to reach dozens of members of the public in attendance who might need support, information or advice.

This is the second year that the Colostomy Association has attended Reading Pride after a successful festival in 2014. Despite the damp weather, the charity managed to reach even more people than at last year’s event with several performers wearing the newly released Colostomy Association wristbands for maximum impact.

In attendance for the event were the CA’s admin team: Jo McKenzie and Jo Hammond. Speaking about the event, Jo McKenzie said: “We had a fantastic time at this year’s Reading Pride event and managed to reach out to people in need of support and raise awareness of living with a stoma.

“The event is a fantastic opportunity not only to reach the local LGBT+ community but the family, friends and members of the public also in attendance who might be in need of help.”

Due to the success of this year’s Reading Pride event, the Colostomy Association is looking into taking part in similar events taking place across the country.
